Underwater noise impact

Underwater noise impact

considered in environmental assessment of new LNG project.

Client: Oil and Gas Company.

Tough Problem: When new potential resource projects are located near precious natural environments extra care must be taken in determining the possible impacts of man-made noise on marine life.

In a shallow water environment noise impact assessment is a complex problem.

Practical Solution: SVT's underwater measurement and modelling capability was used to quantify man-made underwater noise emissions.

The results were combined with extensive literature research to determine the impacts of man-made noise on marine life (e.g. turtles, baleen whales and reef fish).

Bottom Line: The client has approached SVT to provide underwater modelling and measurement capability for other critical projects.
