NASA launch systems testbed

NASA launch systems testbed

acoustics and vibration at the cutting edge.

Client: NASA

Tough Problem: The launch of space vehicles generates extreme conditions, such as vibrations and acoustics, that can affect the launch pad structure, space vehicles and their payloads.

The development of models of acoustic loads generated by rocket exhaust streams is a critical component of the space program.

Practical Solution: SVT, in cooperation with the University of Western Australia, used its specialist capability in the fields of Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV) and Structural Dynamics to refine basic physics models developed by the client to more accurately reflect acoustic loads and in turn improve the safety of the program.

Bottom Line: Improved integrity of space program and new proven techniques developed for industrial applications e.g. fatigue life prediction for critical assets.
