Recurring fan failures

Recurring fan failures

in gas train traced back to underlying process change.

Client: Major LNG producer

Tough Problem: Reoccurring fan failures in  the gas train had reduced Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) to weeks rather than years with escalating direct costs for  repair and indirect costs to production.  While the fans were covered under warranty the Original Equipment Manufacturer had been unable to the address failure rates.

Practical Solution: SVT rotating equipment specialists used root cause analysis and sophisticated performance monitoring tools to trace the cause to an underlying process change. SVT proposed a number of possible solutions and worked through these with the client to determine the most appropriate option to balance safety, timeliness  and cost.

Bottom Line: MTBF on the problem fans significantly improved and production targets back on track.
